Recognition of prior Learning (RPL) is a process of assessment of an individual’s skills and knowledge acquired through formal, informal or non-formal learning. Method of RPL assessment involves evaluation of the evidence provided by an individual of his prior work experience and knowledge against the given standards or competencies.  RPL is practiced in many countries for various purposes.

RPL for Australia Immigration

Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL for Australia Immigration or ACS RPL Project Report Form or ACS RPL Recognition of Prior Learning is the process of assessment of skills and knowledge of the candidates who are willing to migrate to Australia. Australian Computer Society (ACS) is a leading authority association that designed ACS RPL Skills Assessment to assess the skills and knowledge of the candidates applying for Australia Immigration. ACS requires an applicant to have necessary qualification and skills before they can migrate to Australia. Hence, professionals from another countries with no ICT degree or insufficient ICT qualification are required to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to ACS for Australia Skilled Migration by submitting RPL report form for skill assessment.

ICT professionals who have full work experience as professional ICT employee but not with the ICT degree qualification, are required to submit Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) report form to Australian Computer Society (ACS) for ACS Skills Assessment. The purpose of RPL assessment is to provide applicants lacking the ICT educational qualification an opportunity to prove their level of ICT knowledge and skills by submitting RPL application – ACS RPL Project Report Form and addressing as many of the areas referred to in the Key Areas of Knowledge they consider are covered by their acquired knowledge.

ACS RPL Assessment Application Categories

There are two categories under which the applicants can apply for ACS RPL assessment.

  • Applicants who have a non ICT degree qualification, require a minimum 6 years of work experience as a professional ICT employee in a field relevant to the nominated occupation ANZSCO Code.
  • Applicants who do not have tertiary qualifications, require an additional 2 years of work experience as ICT skilled employee (8 years in total) but the additional 2 years’ experience are not required to be relevant to the ANZSCO code.

Requirements of ACS RPL Project Report Form

For RPL Assessment, applicants are required to submit two Project Reports through ACS Project Report Form (RPL). In one report, the project that is undertaken in the last three years should be mentioned and in another report, the project undertaken in the last five years. Each report must provide a detailed description of a career episode in the employment history with sufficient detail of evidence in applying the claimed knowledge in a working situation. Sufficient detail must be provided to demonstrate the depth and breadth of ICT knowledge gained during applicant’s ICT employment.
