System Analyst job description
Systems Analyst ANZSCO 261112 evaluates processes and methods used in existing ICT systems and proposes modifications, additional system components, or new systems to meet user needs as expressed in specifications and other documentation.
To work as a Systems Analyst in Australia, you need a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and industry experience in the related field. If you have a degree in a non-IT-related subject, you could take a postgraduate conversion course. When migrating to Australia as a system analyst, you need to prepare an RPL report and have your skill assessed by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
To become a Systems Analyst, you must acquire four skills: analytical, technical, managerial, and interpersonal. As a System Analyst, you need analytical skills to understand the organization and its functions, which helps you identify opportunities and analyze and solve problems.
Technical skills help you understand the potential and limitations of information technology. Managerial skills help you manage projects, resources, risks, and change. Interpersonal skills help you work with end-users, analysts, programmers, and other system professionals.

As the occupation features on the MLTSSL as an occupation in demand in Australia, it is possible to apply for any visas in the General Skilled Migration (GSM) Program.
Visas in this category include the Skilled Independent 189, the Skilled Nominated 190, the Skilled Regional Nominated 489, and the Skilled Regional Sponsored 489 visas. In addition, there is also the opportunity to apply for several employer-sponsored visas if you have a firm offer of employment. There is no regional restriction for 457 visa applications for this occupation.

Description
The job of a Systems Analyst in Australia is to work with users to formulate system requirements, develop system plans and documentation, review and evaluate existing systems, and design and modify systems to meet users’ business needs.
Note: Non-ICT Business Analysts (for example, Management Consultants) are excluded from this unit group.
Tasks
- Working with users to formulate and document business requirements
- Identifying, investigating, and analyzing business processes, procedures and work practices
- Identifying and evaluating inefficiencies and recommending optimal business practices, and system functionality and behavior
- Using project management methodologies, principles and techniques to develop project plans and to cost, resource and manage projects
- Taking responsibility for deploying functional solutions, such as creating, adopting and implementing system test plans, which ensure acceptable quality and integrity of the system
- Creating user and training documentation, and conducting formal training classes
- Developing functional specifications for use by system developers
- Using data and process modelling techniques to create clear system specifications for the design and development of system software
- Acting as a central reference and information source, providing guidance and assistance in the system project decision making process
Skill level
Most occupations in this group (Group 2611) have a skill level commensurate with a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

Where mandatory licensing or registration is required you must demonstrate a level of English either sufficient to meet licensing / registration or a minimum IELTS, or equivalent, whichever is higher.
