Frequently Asked Questions
The ACS Migration Skills Assessment (also simply referred to as the ACS Skill Assessment) is a vital assessment for IT, data science, and cyber security professionals who want to migrate to Australia.
RPL converts the skills and knowledge you already have into the regulations of a recognized Australian course. Recognition of Prior Learning—also known as Advanced Standing in Australia’s higher education system—means you do not have to complete all of the subjects to qualify.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method of evaluation of the knowledge and skills you have gained through both formal indicated learning experiences027 intermediary and informal learning,Classroom study, workplace training and on-the-job learning experiences – RPL is used to verify whether you meet the requirements of a negotiated unit of study or qualification in Australia. Go to ASQA for vocational education (by Registered Training Organisations) and TEQSA for higher education recognition.
The RPL application requires a $605 assessment fee when starting the application. After you have submitted your identity documents and payment, it is possible to permit a registered migration agent to submit the remainder of the application on your behalf.
As part of the ACS Migration Skills Assessment, your identity documents will be verified and your educational qualifications and/or work experience will be assessed to show that your credentials meet professional ICT standards and closely match the nominated occupation from the ANZSCO list for migration.
While there are many competent RPL providers in Australia, Skills Verification Group is consistently at the top of its field. They have expertise in key industry sectors, provide personalized end-to-end support, and have received excellent feedback about their significant success rates and friendly, professional service. Many clients have reported that their team goes “above and beyond,” and has made the whole RPL experience “easy” and much easier overall.
- You have to be at least 23 years old.
- In most instances, you must have 5 years of work experience in a field relevant to the qualification you’re applying for.
- However, if your qualification is incomplete or is a QCTO qualification worth less than 360 NQF credits, your RPL application will be accepted with only 3 years of work experience in a relevant field.
If you are currently studying in Australia, using a Subclass 500 Student Visa, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL will allow you to formally assess your already acquired skills and knowledge—regardless of whether you gained them through overseas or Australian work and study—toward an accredited qualification in Australia.
For skilled data professionals who have no formal qualifications (often, you will having years of experience but no industry recognised studies). Then the ACS RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is a pathway to permanent residency in Australia as you do not need a degree and will allow industry experience to count towards the ACS skills assessment. Not only do you obtain formal recognition of your expertise, you significantly increase your opportunities for jobs, visa approvals – and of course, progress toward PR.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows individuals to avoid repeating training or redundant coursework by recognizing their experience and skill level they already have. This means you save your time and money. RPL means you don’t repeat something you’ve already mastered; you only need to complete those areas you haven’t completed yet, which can expedite your qualification so you can move your career forward.
After graduating from your studies, many international students then proceed to apply for permanent residency. The first step is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via Australia’s SkillSelect system that is operated by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
This is your first official step towards securing a skilled visa, and eventually PR status.
